KANSAS City, KS (February 19, 2008) – One of the key tenets of CARSTAR Collision Centers’ business philosophy focuses on caring for customers and the community. And through its partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, it has demonstrated this in communities across the country, raising more than $200,000 for the organization along the way.
Yesterday, CARSTAR, headquartered in Overland Park, KS, was recognized by the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s National Office for its ongoing contributions to bringing special wishes to life for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Accepting the award from Make-A-Wish Missouri Director Sandra Lehrer was Dick Cross, chairman and CEO for CARSTAR.
“It is really an honor to be associated with such a distinguished organization as Make-A-Wish,” said Cross. “The work they do in communities across the country is amazing and the difference they make in the lives of children and their families is incredible. CARSTAR, and our nearly 300 store owners throughout the United States, are excited to be able to help these families in need.”
CARSTAR Makes a Child’s Wish Come True: CARSTAR and 3M made a wish came true for 12-year-old Austin Irwin, who lives in Greenfield, MO. His dream was simply to attend the race and meet some of his NASCAR heroes. Irwin suffers from Wilm’s Tumor, a tumor of the kidneys that strikes children more frequently than adults. Approximately 500 cases are diagnosed in the U.S. annually. It is highly responsive to treatment, with about 90% of patients surviving at least five years. During the race weekend, Irwin met NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon, among other NASCAR stars, and delivered the “Gentlemen, start your engines” command for the 3M Performance 400 Presented by Bondo. He was joined by his parents and younger brother.
CARSTAR Showcases the Super ‘Stang on a National Stage: CARSTAR created a special SUPER ‘STANG rebuilt 1967 Mustang to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This one-of-a-kind vehicle has made hundreds of stops on a national tour, including CARSTAR stores, community events and automotive events. The CARSTAR SUPER ‘STANG Muscle Tour has already raised over $200,000 for the charity.
CARSTAR Delivers Strong Support for Make-A-Wish: Through its national SUPER ‘STANG tour and other events, CARSTAR raised more than $200,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. CARSTAR presented the check to the organization during the 3M Performance 400 in August, but continues to raise funds for Make-A-Wish through its ongoing activities.
