The CARSTAR Super’Stang will join the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), ESPN and 40,000 fans for the Summer Drag Series at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich.The Super’Stang, a beautifully rebuilt 1967 Mustang that tours the country raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, will be accepting donations at the Manufacturer’s Midway. The Super’Stang and will be located in the Midway that runs parallel to the drag strip on the western side, while featured racers from around the country will be competing in head-to-head action for the fastest eighth-mile time. This is the first year that the ADRL Summer Drag Series has come to Martin.“We have done a lot of work with charities behind the scenes, but this is by and far the largest event that we have tackled,” said Pat Smith, business development manager of local CARSTAR Collison Centers. “We have been collecting donations in our stores and are excited to take this to the next level.”“We are expecting about 40,000 fans during the race weekend,” acknowledged Stephanie Peterson, marketing and media relations coordinator for the Knoll Gas Motorsports Park. “The ADRL is giving away free weekend tickets at more than 50 Pizza Hut locations in western Michigan and at the Motorsports Park office, so we should see a very large crowd.”Spectator gates to the raceway open at 9 a.m., June 6-7. Open pits, racing and other activities will go on until the final Jet Car one run at 10:15 p.m. on Friday night and until 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. “These are really fan-friendly races,” said Peterson. “Unlike NASCAR, the fans can come right down to the pits and talk to crew members and racers.”The CARSTAR Super’Stang, created by CARSTAR and one of the country’s leading restorer of Mustangs, Jeff Yergovich, is the centerpiece of an 18-month fundraising tour to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This 1967 prototype Ford Mustang will be sold at auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., in January 2009 to benefit the Foundation.
